This project is another summer series from the BBJ. In 2019, we decided to cover transportation in the region and how it, or rather a lack of it, contributes to racial and economic inequality.
Baltimore has plenty of public transportation woes, from a failed subway system that didn’t get past its first line, to busses that can’t get people to economic hubs on time.
The series is divided into two parts, the first covering how we got to where we are and the state of the region’s transportation system now, to how to get where we want to go.
This series won a couple of design awards, including two awards of excellence from the Society for News Design in the category of Cover Story, Business and Editor’s Choice, Local.
