South Florida Sun Sentinel
The Sun Sentinel is owned and operated by tronc, Inc. (formerly Tribune Publishing), a media group that also operates the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and Redeye, to name a few. Currently, the Sun Sentinel reaches 1.5 million readers a week, with distribution in Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Here, I create a weekly Showtime cover, the weekly food section, maps, graphics and various illustrations. Occasionally, I do some multi-media work, creating interactive maps.

Campus Recreation services all student recreation programs, including Intramural and Club Sports, Men’s Ice Hockey and Outdoor Pursuits, and six facilities. I design posters, promotional books, facility signage and advertisements while serving as a liaison between Communications Specialists, Social Media Specialists and two Design Assistants, whom I supervise.

I was asked to be the first and (currently) only Student Designer for the School Of Visual Communications by the Director of the school, Tim Goheen. I create promotional material, acceptance letter templates and signage for the school.

The New Political is an online, daily publication run by Ohio University students focusing on campus, city and state news, politics and policy. At The New Political, I oversee three designers and the production of informational graphics, promotional material and all print publications.

Most of these jobs have come from people recommending me as a designer (because I’m so awesome), but some I have applied for. Akron Life Magazine is a monthly lifestyle publication committed to providing information that enhances the experience of living in Akron, Ohio. I created magazine layouts and advertisements, and managed web content.

MennoMedia is a Herald Press Company that publishes books, video, radio and web resources focusing on topics related to the Mennonite Church. As an intern, designed the inside of three books. MennoMedia later hired me as a freelance designer.

Ohio University’s only fashion magazine. Thread publishes two times a semester, with each designer taking on one story. I usually took on two to three stories. (I was very eager!)

Society for Professional Journalists Sunshine State Awards – Best Front Page Design (Large)
In combination with myself, my editor David Shutz and design colleague Lillian Mayor, The Sun Sentinel won Best Front Page Design (Large) for our 2017 election coverage. The paper also won second and third place in the same category for the Orlando Pulse Shooting and overall front page design. Check out the list here.
Sun Sentinel Pride Award
A monthly award granted with a nomination from one’s colleagues for excellence and hard work. My nomination cited my special illustration work, including my 2016 Voter’s Guide, Food section and Medicare Special Section illustrations.

For the Fall 2012 semester I was named “Best Newbie Designer.” I was one of 10 new designers that semester and, according to my editor, showed great potential.
Charles L. Scott Endowed Scholarship
Charles L. Scott Endowed Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to one student in each field of Visual Communication (Print Design, Web Design, Commercial Photography and Photojournalism) for excellence in Ohio University’s Visual Communication program. The scholarship is presented by Charles L. Scott, a co-founder of the Visual Communication program at Ohio University.
Elizabeth Lash Brague Memorial Scholarship
Established by Halley G. Brague to honor his wife. The scholarship is open to upperclass students. Selection is made by by the Ohio University Student Financial Aid Office based on academic achievement.
Nadine Jennings Scholarship
Recipient must live in the Akron area, enrolled in 15+ credit hours, have a 3.4 GPA or higher and show academic promise.
